Enrichment Programs
Our Healthy Habits Coordinator provides interactive nutrition education, emphasizing a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Providing hands-on cooking, baking, food preparation and food based art experiences. Lessons to encourage personal hygiene, oral health, social development, physical activity, gardening and general well being are also introduced.
CCP Preschool's music specialist sings a variety of songs with the children, encouraging them to create their own songs and play with musical instruments. Children make recordings of their voice in order to hear themselves sing their original compositions.
Our Art Teacher works with the children in a variety of materials, working on self portraits as well as still-life to cardboard sculptures. They are encouraged to stretch their imagination through painting, drawing or sculpting.
CCP preschool has been using the Zoophonics Program since 2003 and is an integral part of our preschool program. It is a kinesthetic approach to phonics and an excellent pre-reading program. Cabrillo Unified School District uses this same program at the Kindergarten level. Children act out the letters moving their arms and legs in various positions forming the animals that they learn that represent the sound in the phonics program. Many of our children have had their first reading success at our CCP preschool as a direct result of using the Zoophonics Program.
A regularly scheduled activity the children look forward to is yoga and "Move it, Move it". Our teachers practice yoga with the children using “Yoga Pretzel,” cards and the “Move it, Move it” physical education program using music and movement.
Gardening is an important part of the program as evidenced by the fruit trees and flowers in our play yard. The children love to care for them each day.
Parent Conference
Coastside Children’s Programs participates in tracking our children and our practices based on high quality and challenging standards accompanied by a process for monitoring and determining effectiveness according to the California Department of Education. Coastside Children’s Programs often exceeds these recommendations.
Two times a year our teachers assess the children using the tool, Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) and Assessments. The Assessment is the process of observing, recording and documenting the work children do and how they do it. It is a basis for a variety of educational decisions that affect the child, including individual and group planning as well as parent communication.
The Child’s Developmental Progress Form assists the teacher and families in supporting the child’s development. This form is given to you at our twice yearly Parent Conference held in the Fall and Spring each year.
We also use the Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) as self assessment and guide for planning of space and furnishings, personal care routines, language and reasoning, activities, interaction, program structure and parents and staff provisions as well as staff professional growth.
Along with the DRDP and ERS, we ask the parents to fill out a Parent Survey that will help our centers do a better job of meeting our parents needs. |
